The annual Splash Festival is upon us and like every year, this festival is filled with some excellent activities to keep young and old entertained from the 25th to 28th of March 2016. Make your way to Hobie Beach this Easter weekend; watch Jet Ski races from the shore, delight in all the delicious treats, do a bit of shopping, enjoy local performers and don’t miss out on all the sports.

Picnic at Thunzi Bush Lodge
Experience the tranquility of the coastal indigenous forest at a country lodge in the African bush just 30 km from the center of Port Elizabeth. Thunzi Bush Lodge offers day visitors the opportunity to indulge in a gourmet picnic packed with a freshly baked organic loaf and picnic delights such as cold meats, cheeses, salads and scrumptious desserts. If you can tear yourself away from the serene picnic setting where the birds chirp and bushbucks roam you can also try your hand at bass fishing at Thunzi Bush Lodge.

The I love Kas’lam Experience, a first for the Bay, will be held on the 27th of March and will celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit and talent of the people of the Bay with music, good food, sports and exhibitions at the Limba Hall and hope to promote township products and create networking opportunities.

Learn about our ocean’s Happy Feet at SAMREC
SAMREC (South African Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre) is situated in Cape Recife Nature Reserve. A visit to SAMREC, a non-profit organisation, is insightfully unforgettable. Every SAMREC volunteer is dedicated to rehabilitate marine birds and educate the public about the plight of the African penguin via their “please touch the displays” Discovery Room, informative talks and the hard work they do with the penguins daily. Minutes can quickly become hours when you sit and watch how all the permanent penguin residents jump, swim and wiggle their way around the water. SAMREC hosts a moonlight walk on the 24th of March along the beach at Cape Recife.
Not so fun fact: Did you know that the African penguin might not be with us anymore by 2025?
You deserve a break this weekend and with so many Easter activities and opportunities you can get active, indulge in some delicious food, be one with nature and celebrate our local heroes in our all-in-one Nelson Mandela Bay.
