Hello Tourism Month!

  • 01 September 2017 | By Anje Rautenbach

It is officially Tourism Month in South Africa, and it lasts for 365 days.

While the rest of South Africa is kicking of the celebrations and activities today, Nelson Mandela Bay got a head start and kicked off Tourism Month on the 31st of August alongside Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM).

It just shows how excited we are in the Bay for Tourism Month!

But besides the inspiration from speeches done by Nopasika Mxunyelwa (CMO from ECPTA),  Ashley Wentworth (CEO of Storms River Adventures), Councillor Andrew Whitfield and a striking poem by Amandla Didiza (Mr.PE runner-up), Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism also launched the second and very exciting, annual #ShareTheBay Exhibition.

The exhibition features some of the incredible Nelson Mandela Bay experiences through the photos from 10 Bay locals and it can be viewed until the 29th of September at the Athenaeum at the Belmont Terrace in Port Elizabeth, weekdays from 9am to 5pm.

The public is also welcome to purchase the photographs on display (A1 = R550 / A2 = R350), profits will go towards sponsoring a group of underprivileged youth on a tour to Addo Elephant National Park, a landmark in the Bay and a place they have never experienced before. If you want to order, don’t hesitate to contact pr@nmbt.co.za with the details of your desired print.

But that’s not all.

In the exhibition hall visitors will find entry forms to a competition.

All you have to do is answer one simple question: What is your favourite attraction or activities in Nelson Mandela Bay?

Prizes include:

  • 2 night stay B & B at The Plantation for 2
  • A Route 67 tour with Lungton tours for 2
  • A Mohair hamper
  • A Masterton’s Hamper

What to get up to during Tourism Month?

While locals and visitors are encouraged to explore and #ShareTheBay 365 days a year, Tourism Month is just a little bit extra special thanks to all the activations taking place around the Bay and also the fact that it is the month in which we have a dedicated day to celebrate our heritage.
