The Bay's Budget Beaters

  • 07 March 2018 | By Kerryn Botha

The 2018 National Budget Speech is done and the inevitable debates completed, but have you taken a look at your own personal budget yet? One thing for certain is that your money is going to have to stretch a whole lot further. Entertainment allowances are almost always the first casualty of any budget, but rather than going out less, take advantage of some incredible specials around the Bay! Some of these specials are so good; you probably wouldn’t be able to cook the same dish at home for less – now that’s budget savvy!

 MONDAY

Chase away any hint of the Monday Blues at “Bocadillos”. Their half price pizza special has become renowned in the Bay and for good reason. The special is on all their classic range pizzas - Scrumptious and easy on the pocket. Bookings are essential and the special is on “eat in” pizzas only.

TUESDAY

Tuesday’s are all about the Food Truck’s! They seem to have nestled their way into Port Elizabethans hearts and now the Food Truck’s are at it again with “2 For 1 Tuesday” at Chicky’s Yard. A perfect date night adventure - at a fraction of the cost. Doors open from 4pm – 9pm.

WEDNESDAY

Buy one get one free at “Frederick and Son” in the Valley. Munch down on the burger of the day with a friend or keep them both for yourself. With burgers this good, nobody’s going to judge you. While you’re there, why not try out a beer from the Richmond Hill Brewing Company? Beer and burgers, now that’s a great combination.

THURSDAY (AND EVERY OTHER WEEKDAY)

The Day Breaker Breakfast at "The Rose Garden" at Floradale Nursery – 2 eggs, 2 rashes of bacon, 2 slices of toast & grilled tomato for just R29 between 8-9am every weekday morning. If that’s not a reason to get yourself out of bed bright and early, what is? You can also add a bottomless coffee for R18.

 FRIDAY

"Cobblestone Bakery" in Walmer have daily lunch specials for R50, but Fridays are particularly special because you get your pick of the whole week’s specials. Chicken schnitzel, pizza, burger or chicken curry for just R50 – does it get better than that?

WEEKDAY

Lunchtime every weekday at "Old Austria" is possibly the most bang for your buck that you can get in town. For R65 you can have a main course with either a starter or dessert. If you want all three… just R80! Top quality food and service at that price? What are you waiting for?

SATURDAY

An old familiar favourite for all the theatre goers in the Bay, the Stage Door’s Saturday night special – 200g fillet, 2 veg, onion rings, chips, ice cream & chocolate sauce and live music for R109. Entertainment and dinner – that’s what weekends are for!

SUNDAY

Sunday lunch at "Bonamia" is served from 10am – 3pm. Two meats, rice, gravy, two veggies & potato wedges for R79 and includes ice cream and chocolate sauce – a sweet end to your weekend.

Now that you’re armed and ready, happy budgeting!
