The Supper Club Pop-up Restaurant set to take over the Bay

Foodie culture in the Bay is certainly gaining a whole lot of momentum. We see more and more restaurants popping up all over town and now we have whole markets dedicated to food. The next step inevitably was pop-up restaurants.

The newest pop-up is "The Supper Club". If you’re a foodie, best you look them up on social media and make sure you know when and where their next pop-up will be. Their first event was hosted on the 28th of May at Chicky’s Yard in the Baakens Valley. It was absolutely remarkable. It brought together a group of Port Elizabeth’s best up and coming and veteran foodies and what a joy to the taste buds.

To start the evening off, we were treated to a Rum Tasting presented by the "Brickmaker’s Distilling Co". I myself am not a rum drinker, but finding out that we have someone in the Bay who has so much passion for this unusual craft is very exciting.



Next the culinary experience began with a wonderful menu put together by chef Harald Greeff.



The starter was Ceviche of Yellowtail with mango and pink peppercorn jelly, fresh radish, avo cream; finished with a chilli and lime dressing and garnished with pea shoots. It was exquisite and perfectly balanced. It’s hard to believe that a chef as young as Harald could produce a dish that was inspired and perfectly executed for thirty people with every plate almost identical. Just thinking about that plate of food has me salivating all over again.



The starter and main course were paired with wines from Remhoogte chosen by Robyn from “For The Love of Wine”. Robyn’s passion for wine is infectious. She took us on a wine journey that was a joy to the palate. Robyn is extremely knowledgeable and it’s always such a pleasure listening and learning from her. Rest assured that if she’s advised you on a good bottle of wine, you’ll almost certainly be going back for more.



With such a glorious starter, mains had a lot to live up to, but once more Harald delivered. A gorgeous rack of lamb, roasted baby onions, pickled beetroot, burnt leeks, asparagus, bagna cauda; finished with lamb jus and garnished with kale micro greens. What a delightful main course! Harald is one of the brains behind “The Supper Club” brand. He’s also Port Elizabeth’s very own private chef and offers cooking classes. Do yourself a favour and follow this rising star’s journey. Something tells me it’s going to be a goodie.



Dessert really tugged at my heart strings. Charlotte from "Manna Delights" made contact with me a couple of months back and was so supportive of my own foodie journey. To meet this incredible lady and see her excelling, was an absolute treat and so was her dessert!  Aromatic Turkish coffee cake, ma’amul and Han-made sea salted caramel ice-cream; finished with tahina drizzled broken meringue and fresh figs. An absolutely heavenly dessert!



To end the night off we were treated to a good old cup of coffee from the "Ground Floor Café". Those who follow my foodie journey will know I have a soft spot for them. I don’t need much of an excuse to have breakfast and a good cuppa at the "Ground Floor Café".



The evening was coupled with wonderful live entertainment with attention to detail. Gorgeous place settings, flowers, a special "Han-made" ice-cream utilizing "Marina Salt" (a sponsor) and the little goodie bags that each patron received at the end of the evening. All carefully and so thoughtfully considered to ensure each person left with full bellies, happy hearts and incredibly proud of our Bay.
